This is an example of a quick formative assessment. It is proof of understanding this standard. I found quick assessments were a good look at where my students were and where we needed to head next.
Independent practice was kept to a short passage like this and 4-5 comprehension questions. Students were able to show success without being overwhelmed.

This is a self reflection on a summative assessment. Students were involved in their learning and could explain what they were learning, where they needed assistance, and were comfortable recognizing strengths and weaknesses.
